Entertainment Tonight did an interview with Cote when she was in Malta filming The Dovekeepers and it aired as part of last night’s (02/18/2015) episode!

After exiting CBS’ hit drama NCIS, Cote de Pablo is returning to the network in The Dovekeepers, and ET has a behind-the-scenes look!

The four-hour series event, airing March 31 and April 1, is based on Alice Hoffman’s historical novel about the Siege of Masada in 70 C.E. where 900 Jews stood their ground against Roman armies after being forced out of their home in Jerusalem and ensconced in a fortress at a mountain in the Judean desert. The project will recount the events from the perspective of a few extraordinary women with different backstories who share a common bond for survival. Cote plays Shirah, a healer accused of practicing witchcraft.

The 35-year-old actress was in full wardrobe as she gave a tour of the set in Malta and spilled details on the show.

“Is there romance for Shirah?” Cote said. “Let’s just say it’s all the romance I didn’t get on [NCIS]. I’m kidding! There’s a lot of passion and there’s a lot of love and there’s a lot of loss in this story so it’s a heavily emotional piece.”

The series comes from executive producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, who also produced the hit History Channel miniseries The Bible.

During her time on NCIS, Cote played Special Agent Ziva David for eight seasons, but her goodbye at the start of season 11 left room for her character to return.

“I’m always grateful to hear things like, ‘We miss you,'” Cote said. “I mean, the doors are always open, so it’s up to it’s up to them I guess.”

If you’ve yet to read The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman, the novel that the mini-series is based on, soon there will be a special version of the book out. There will be a movie tie-in edition that features Cote de Pablo and Rachel Brosnahan on the cover.

This version of the novel will be available on March 17, 2015, two weeks before the mini-series premiers on CBS.

It looks like it will be available in trade paperback (a larger version of a standard paperback book) and mass market paperback versions (the standard paperback).

Check out the covers for the two versions of the book below:

What a wonderful start to the new year! Last night Cote attended the 2015 People’s Choice awards to start promoting The Dovekeepers. We even got to see her up on stage, sadly not for an award, but she got to introduce one of the musical performances – Fall Out Boy. You can check out the video of her introduction here, and make sure to also check out the photos in the gallery, some of which are featured below. She wore a gorgeous dress by Cristallini and her hair and make-up was a bit of old Hollywood glamour.

Though we had a good idea of when the mini-series was starting thanks to a Facebook post from Alice Hoffman, the author of the book the television show is based upon, we now have official confirmation from CBS as to which dates and times it will be on CBS!

From CBS’ press release:

Cote de Pablo, Rachel Brosnahan, Kathryn Prescott, Diego Boneta and Sam Neill Star

Based on Alice Hoffman’s Bestselling Historical Novel About a Group of Extraordinary Women Whose Lives Intersect In a Fight for Survival at the Siege of Masada in 70 C.E.

CBS today announced THE DOVEKEEPERS, a four-hour limited event series from executive producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, will be broadcast Tuesday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 1, 2015 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).

The project stars Cote de Pablo, Rachel Brosnahan and Kathryn Prescott in the title dovekeeper roles, Sam Neill as first-century Jewish scholar and historian Josephus, and Diego Boneta as a star warrior of the Jewish army at Masada. The series is based on Alice Hoffman’s bestselling, critically acclaimed historical novel about a group of extraordinary women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada.

Set in ancient Israel, THE DOVEKEEPERS is based on the true events at Masada in 70 C.E. After being forced out of their home in Jerusalem by the Romans, 900 Jews were ensconced in a fortress at Masada, a mountain in the Judean desert. Besieged at Masada, the Jews held out for months against the vast Roman armies. The project will recount the events from the perspective of a few extraordinary women who arrive at Masada with unique backstories, but a common bond for survival. Additionally, these women, who work together daily as dovekeepers, are all concealing substantial secrets.

Hoffman’s novel was published in 2011 by Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, earning the New York Times’ bestseller status and widespread critical acclaim, including being hailed by Nobel laureate Toni Morrison as “a major contribution to 21st century literature.”

THE DOVEKEEPERS will be brought to television from executive producers Roma Downey and multiple Emmy Award winner Mark Burnett (SURVIVOR, “The Voice”), the production team behind the Emmy-nominated 10-hour miniseries “The Bible,” which scored big ratings for the History Channel in March 2013, and the feature “Son of God.”

Frank Siracusa, John Weber and Yves Simoneau also serve as executive producers, with Simoneau directing. Ann Peacock adapted the novel for the screen.

THE DOVEKEEPERS is the first project from CBS Entertainment and CBS Television Studios’ Limited Series and Event Programming unit. It is a co-production between CBS Television Studios and LightWorkers Media, a division of United Artists Media Group.
